ABOUT THE FURIOUS FOURTH
Based out of Central Pennsylvania, our non-profit association seeks to convey the personal stories, struggles and triumphs of the typical soldier who battled across Europe during World War II. We formally portray and interpret 2nd Platoon, Baker Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Regiment, 4th Infantry Division. Most of us in the group have professional backgrounds in Education, History and the military. We take a degree of pride in our differences from other reenacting organizations.
Rather than merely setting up camp displays with "stuff," we strive to move a step beyond and tell a broader story - a human story. Yes, we can tell you all about the capacities of an M-1 Garand Rifle or the mechanics of a Willys 1942 Jeep. However, these stories of equipment and weaponry matter only in the context of their times and the men who used them. History is the saga of people, not the story of stuff. To paraphrase writer Freeman Tilden, the primary objective of our historical interpretation is "not instruction, but provocation." We constantly strive to live up to that edict. As a living history organization looking to grow, we actively recruit for new members and welcome inquiries about joining the ranks. We are also available for film shoots and movie productions. Please visit our Contact page to get in touch about recruitment, educational activities, event opportunities or film projects. |

OUR OTHER IMPRESSIONS
PORTRAYING THE MILITARY BRANCHES Beyond our traditional reenacting impressions of the 4th Infantry Division, we also have a vast collection of uniforms and artifacts for specific events with varying themes.
We were the first organization to do a formal living history event within Gettysburg National Military Park. Our unit portrayed German POWs who lived and worked on the battlefield from 1944-1946 to assist with wartime production. We participated in landscape restoration at Devil's Den. Among our other site-specific portrayals is captured Allied airmen. Fort Roberdeau Historic Site, a Revolutionary War fort, stands in as a Stalag camp as we pay homage to prisoners of war. This allows us to break away from more typical frontline portrayals and interpret the toils of tedium and survival. In addition, we also have a full collection of World War II naval uniforms, equipment and items that are ideal for living history presentations at naval centers, ship museums and other historic sites.
